The minister was replying to a question raised by Congress Legislature Party leader Manas Bhuniya on how much land was given for the project and the purpose that the land was given for.
According to the minister, a total of 44.27 acres were given to three companies for building a housing complex and resorts at farm land at Rajarhat. “There were allegations of irregularities in the process of mutation and they are being investigated. We will not spare anybody who is involved in the mischief,” Mollah said.
When the CLP leader alleged that at Rajarhat, land sharks were grabbing land forcibly amid allegations of torture and murder, the minister said it was not his job to look after law and order.
The Congress today demanded a white paper from the government on land-grabbing in various places. “Besides Vedic Village, where one person died in violence, there are several land sharks who have been snatching land from poor farmers at gun-point,” Bhuniya said.
Meanwhile, Trinamool members staged a dharna at the lawns of the Assembly following the Speaker’s decision not to disallow them from raising an adjournment motion on the law and order situation of the state. Placards like ‘killer Buddha quit’ were seen at the dharna that went all over the day. “This government does not have the right to stay for even one more day,” Trinamool’s Partha Chatterjee, who is also Leader of the Opposition, said.
