Vadodara Vice-President Hamid Ansari will visit the city on Saturday to release the book ‘Myths and Legends of Champaner-Pavagadh’.

The book release event has been jointly organised by the Delhi-based The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and the city-based NGO, Heritage Trust. The event will be held at Sayajibaug.

The book is written by architect Sonal Modi and it is an account of the historical importance of the pilgrimage site at Pavagadh and the legends and myths associated with the place.

The medieval ruins of Champaner-Pavagadh town have been declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and draws visitors from all over the country.

Modi’s book also describes the architectural amalgamation of Islamic, Hindu and Jain influence at the foothills of Champaner.

The book is a compilation of research work done by Modi as part of her PhD programme at University of Illinois.
