Municipal councillors Arvind Goyani and Mukesh Kothiya, and ruling party leader Bhimji Patel of the SMC found three tonnes of iron rods in an open plot at Devikrupa Society at Parvat Patia on Wednesday night.

An inquiry revealed it belonged to the Ganesh Construction Company, which is holding the construction contract with the Surat Municipal Corporation.

Bhimji Patel immediately informed the municipal commissioner about the recovery of iron rods from the premises of the contactor.

The area was sealed off and the municipal commissioner passed orders to the vigilance team of SMC to investigate into the incident.

Aparna said: “We are investigating into the incident. We believe that 438 kg out of the three tonnes were from the SMC construction site at Athwalines.”
