Doraha (Ludhiana) Reacting sharply to the registration of another Vigilance case against him and his son, former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said the Vigilance Bureau does not have the jurisdiction to look into the affairs of his defunct company and it was the job of either the Income Tax Department or the Registrar of Companies.

Terming this case as a politically motivated one, Capt Amarinder Singh said the Badals had got this case registered to defame his son Raninder Singh, who had expressed an interest in contesting from Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency, from where Sukhbir Badal’s wife is also likely to contest on a SAD-BJP ticket.

The former CM was talking to mediapersons here today before attending a function to welcome Jagjivan Pal Singh Gill, a former Akali leader, into the Congress fold.

Though he does not have the exact details of the FIR against him and his son, the former CM said if there was any such matter against his defunct company — which he said had been closed 10 years prior to his becoming the CM — it should have been investigated by either the Income Tax Department or by the Registrar of Companies. He claimed that his company had nothing to do with his tenure as CM.

Replying to another question, Capt Singh said the Badals were grabbing the entire cable network in the state and the PPCC had brought this matter to the notice of the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry. He added that in case action was delayed due to some reason, the state Congress would take all legal steps to stop this “anti-democratic” action.

AICC spokesperson Manish Tewari, PPCC president Mohinder Singh Kaypee and other party leaders also spoke on this occasion.
