Hoshiarpur It was alleged that the VB team tried to put money in the pocket of a clerk

A Vigilance team, led by DSP Daljit Singh from Hoshiarpur, was beaten up when its members raided the SDM office in Dasuya to trap a clerk. It was being alleged that the Vigilance officials forcibly put money into the pocket of Manohar Lal, the clerk.

The team conducted the raid on the complaint of Harpreet Masih of Ghogra village, who alleged that Manohar Lal had demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 for allotting a number of his choice for his motorbike. According to DSP Daljit Singh, his team laid a trap and nabbed Manohar Lal when the shadow witness gave them the “settled signal”.

A group of 14-15 persons, including employees of the SDM office, attacked the Vigilance team and they were soon joined by the staff of the Municipal Committee, BDPO and tehsildar. Employees alleged that the Vigilance team had forcibly put money in the pocket of Manohar Lal.

Meanwhile, the Vigilance police station, Jalandhar, has registered a case against Manohar Lal under the Prevention of Corruption Act and also booked government officials for assaulting VB team. Vigilance has arrested Anju Bala, a class IV employee of SDM’s office, and Tarsem Singh, a reader of Naib Tehsildar. Raids are on to arrest others.
