Ahmedabad Wounded man still critical, severed organ yet to be stitched back; his aggressive sexual behaviour forced woman to go the extreme way

Mehsana may be a far cry from Virginia and Amraiwadi-born Kailasben Makwana (35) might not have even heard of New York-born Lorena Bobbit. But the police say when Kailasben swung the kitchen knife on her husband in their bedroom the previous night, it was the culmination of circumstances eerily similar to that of Bobbit’s, 13 years ago.

Doctors are now working hard on her husband, 30-year-old Kanu Makwana. But unlike in John Bobbit’s case, Kanu’s severed organ, thoughtfully taken along in the ambulance when neighbours rushed him to the hospital, could not be stitched back.

In the Bobbit case, the bloody finale reportedly came at the end of a long series of infidelities of her husband, physical and emotional torture, and forced sex the night Lorena struck. In Kailasben’s case, the police say she told them that Kanu used to oppress her and he not only had sexual relations with many women, but also used to brag about it to her. Also, similar to the Bobbit case, it was after Kanu had forced sex with her that she decided to hit back.

Bobbit had taken the kitchen cleaver to her sleeping husband on an impulse, after she woke up and went for a glass of water. Kailasben went farther, according to the police.

She spiked Kanu’s post-dinner tea with sedatives. “She tied her drowsy husband’s hands and legs with a rope in their rented house and began stripping him. Kanu told us that he co-operated thinking his wife was trying to seduce him,” said Amraiwadi Sub-Inspector M P Solanki.

But before Makwana could figure out what was happening, Kailasben had used the knife. Neighbours rushed in hearing Kanu’s screams around 3 am on Monday. “Someone rang up 108 ambulance service and rushed him to the Civil Hospital,” Solanki added. Kanu is being operated upon by a team of surgeons. Dr Gautam Sharma, assistant administrator, said: “Senior surgeons are attending to this case and nothing can be said at this juncture. He is seriously injured,” he said. The police say Kailasben has been arrested and has confessed to the act.
