Confirming this, Ashwani Kumar, Assistant Estate Officer, said that notices have been issued under Section VIII of the Capital of Punjab Act, 1952. "Around 15 schools have been issued notices. We have also given them a stipend period to work on the anomalies. In case the schools fail to do so, either eviction proceedings will be initiated against them or the land may also be resumed."

Schools including DAV Model School in Sector 15, Delhi Public School in Sector 41, Bhavan Vidyalaya and Shivalik Public School have constructed auditoriums in the basement. While the structure is against the bylaws, they also pose a threat to the children's safety as these have only one exit and there are hardly any fire safety measures.

While DAV School has raised the height of the boundary wall and constructed an extra basement outside the hostel, St Kabir and St Stephen's School have increased the height of the outer wall by putting up a fence. St Kabir School has also constructed an open stadium in the school premises.

Authorities at Shivalik Public School, meanwhile, have already started working on dismantling the structures lest the bulldozers raze them. "We have constructed a wall in place of the gate, on which the objection was raised. As far as the auditorium in the basement is concerned, we have given in writing to the officials that it will no longer be used for any activity," said D S Bedi, director of the school.

Other schools like St Kabir and DAV Model School have submitted their revised plans to the concerned officials. "There is no structural violation in the school. We have already submitted our revised plan in the EO," said an official spokesperson of the school.
