Lucknow A Scorpio (UP 32 BF-0011), carrying the sign “Uttar Pradesh Sarkar”, was seized by the police from the Naka area on Tuesday, after its driver was beaten up by an angry group for harassing a teenaged girl. The vehicle is owned by engineer Arun Kumar Srivastava, posted with the Zila Panchayat Parishad in Allahabad. The engineer’s 15-year-old son was also in the car. A former tenant of the engineer, Vishal, alias Goldy, was tailing a 17-year-old girl on Tuesday. the police said he had been harassing her for a few days. While he was at it on Tuesday, the girl called her brother. He arrived in some time with his friends, pulled out Goldy from the car, and gave him a thrashing. The police later picked up Goldy and the engineer’s son. Goldy was later arrested after the girl’s uncle filed an FIR. Srivastava’s son was let off because he was not involved in the eve-teasing. Naka station house officer Prithviraj Chauhan said: “I am not aware if the vehicle belongs to a government department. We are yet to contact Srivastava.”
