Vadodara The visit of Rahul Gandhi to the state has stirred up a hornet’s nest within the Congress party.

Right from the finalisation of the venue where the party general secretary would meet the students to the itinerary of the MP, total chaos prevailed on Friday. Hours after Rahul left Vadodara, the president of the City Youth Congress and his 58 supporters resigned from their posts.

Sources within the party lamented that it almost looked as if it was a ‘political parade’ for candidate selection for the forthcoming elections.

The senior members, instead of fulfilling the wish of Rahul to promote Youth Congress and bring out young leaders, were busy pushing their supporters to create a good image.

The results were evident as at the L&T circle, where Rahul first landed instead of the Amphi Theatre, only 25 girls were present to register for the YC.

“The first thing Rahul noticed after getting down from the car was scanty crowd. There were people from the state who are facing criminal charges. He did not even spend five minutes and immediately turned towards MSU Science faculty, which was totally unplanned. He spent more than half-an-hour there,” said a YC member.

First, it was dispute among the top Congress members regarding the cancellation of Rahul’s meeting with the students at MSU. Confusion prevailed till minutes before his arrival as to whether he would come to the Amphi Theatre at Sayajibaug.

“Satyajit Gaekwad is trying his best to get the ticket this time and to ensure that he gets one, he deliberately avoided certain YC members,” said a party insider.

“We were at the Amphi Theatre till 4 am as part of preparations and were informed at the end that the Special Protection Group has denied permission to hold the programme. It was too disappointing for us, as we had been mobilising students since Wednesday evening,” said a Youth Congress member.
