VMC panel’s nod to merger of 50 pc DA with basic salary

Vadodara, January 31 Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) standing committee members on Thursday, during the draft budget proposal 2008-09 discussion, approved merger of 50 per cent dearness allowance with the basic salary. The move was due after the state government brought new changes in the law. This will have VMC paying around Rs 2.91 crore to the employees this year.

VMC employees have welcomed the move as they will get the amount dues for the past three years. Also, the VMC on Thursday got 122 structures demolished in Subhanpura area. Among the demolished structures, there were 99 huts and 20 houses which were fully or partly coming in the way of the 18-metre-wide road linking Gotri.

VMC commissioner MK Das had a meeting with MGVCL officials to discuss the removal of electricity polls standing idle or those coming in the way of the road-widening programme.

Moreover, it is learnt that the VMC standing committee members have also demanded an investigation by the anti-corruption bureau against a few top-level officers in the engineering wing. They represented before the VMC commissioner alleging that these officers had amassed large sums of money and purchased properties using corrupt means.
