Vadodara Even as commuters are forced to endure bumpy rides across the city, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is all set to paint a rosy picture of the city to woo the investors visiting the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors' Summit.

The civic body is making a documentary, which will be screened in its stall at the Vibrant Gujarat summit, to be held on January 12 and 13.

"We have been doing well at corporation level. Since we already have a stall at the summit, we thought of making a small documentary and screen it for those who visit our stall," said VMC deputy municipal commissioner, C M Makwana.

The documentary will highlight the achievements of VMC in the year 2008. "We have won national awards for introducing urban transport system in form of VTCOS buses and also for installing the streetlights with Global System for Mobile Communication. Besides that, we have also initiated several road projects and other infrastructure development projects as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). We intend to highlight all these achievements in form of a documentary film," Makwana said.

The opposition party, however, has alleged that VMC has been misusing public funds in form of delaying several projects for no specific reasons.

Opposition leader Chirag Zaveri said: "They must make a documentary which portrays the true picture. Thousands of people who were staying in hutments are homeless today, there is no focus on health scenario and the gutters are overflowing. If they show all these things in the documentary, I am sure that no investor will think of even coming to Vadodara, forget about investing here."

The projects, which were initiated as part of the JNNURM, have been delayed by almost a year.

"But the top VMC officials still feel that serving notices to the contractors will improve the situation and the development works will move faster. There are several roads which are still under construction and commuters are facing problems everyday. Let all such scenes be a part of the documentary," Zaveri said.

Vibrant Gujarat and our world class infrastructure by Niranjan on 08 Jan 2009

We should bring the visitors to the Old Padra Road and such areas to show how our 'world class infrastructure' is helping our 'vibrant' economy.
