Vadodara The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Monday cracked down on the private companies which were found using streetlight poles for their cable network. A VMC team visited different parts of the city and snapped the wires.

“We are going to act tough on the people or the organisations using civic streetlight poles to develop the network. We had engaged as many as 50 men on the job and we had the support from the encroachment removal team,” said Subodh Shah, Executive Engineer of the Streetlight department.

On the first day, he added, they moved in Manjalpur, VIP Road, Karelibaug area among others. “We will continue the drive, but we won’t divulge about the areas where we plan to crack down,” Shah said.

When asked about the penalty or punishment against those who are found using streetlight poles for cable network, he said: “At the moment, we have not thought about it. But soon we would come out with concrete rules and regulations.”

The drive is expected to result in inconvenience to cable TV viewers and Internet users.
