Pune, March 4 The election branch of Pune district collectorate will undertake a drive for issuing voters' identity card for Parvati and Mulshi assembly constituencies from March 11. A special time table has been readied for the two constituencies.

Deputy election officer Varsha Untwal said since the Election Commission has set May as the deadline, the eight city constituencies will be covered in the coming two months.

Pune district has 18 constituencies with a voter population of 53 lakh. Nearly 32 lakh voters in the city area and 21 lakh voters in the rural area. "We have completed 10 constituencies in the rural areas and we will be starting the exercise in the city areas," she said.

"For the drive in the city, we will start with Parvati from March 11-16 followed by Mulshi from March 12-April 5. With around 4.20 lakh voters from Parvati and around 2.5 lakh voters from the Mulshi area, we will have around 25 centres each day dedicated to issue these voters identity cards.''

Explaning the procedure, she said that an agency has been deployed for checking the names in the voters' list and individuals will be given the requisite voter's slip which is mandatory to be carried to the centre. Once the list is handed over, the photo would be taken and later there is an arrangement for lamination of the card.

A search engine too will be a new feature at these centres which will help find the name and the entire process per person would take roughly around 20 minutes, said Untwal.

The department has also got permission to take help of more agencies to help them and Untwal has urged citizens to go to these centres. In case of any difficulty, the department is open to address the problems on 020-26122348.
