Vadodara A 30-year-old Class IV contractual employee of the V S Hospital, Baldev Rao Vaghela, allegedly committed suicide by jumping into Sabarmati River in the city late on Sunday. Police said two senior hospital employees, Pranav Barot and Sandeep Vaishnav, allegedly provoked Vaghela to take the extreme step.

Barot is assistant manager and Vaishnav is an inspector in the hospital's sanitary department. Both the senior employees of the hospital are likely to be booked for abetment to suicide, Ellisbridge police said.

According to case details, Vaghela worked as a daily wage sweeper in the hospital for the past five years.

Police said that though according to hospital board rules Vaghela was by then eligible to be made a permanent employee, Barot and Vaishnav were delaying the process intentionally.

"The officials, who looked after recruitments in the department, were harassing Vaghela on one ground or the other. Despite Vaghela's having submitted his fitness certificate about three months ago, the duo was delaying his recruitment as a permanent staffer by making lame excuses, " said H M Kundaliya, Ellisbridge Police Inspector.

The personnel of Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) fished out Vaghela's body from the river on Monday morning.

The incident has led to unrest at the hospital premises and other Class IV employees have called for a strike as a protest against the officials’ conduct. Meanwhile Barot and Vaishnav have been suspended and a hospital committee is probing the allegations against them.
