Suresh Bovi, 30, manager of Hotel Durgaprasad in Bandra East and cook Prakash Gupta were found seriously injured on the hotel premises on June 7. Bovi died a few days later while Gupta who survived told the police that two waiters working at the hotel had assaulted them.
“We arrested Rizwan Farman Pathan (20) and Mohammed Muzammil Khan (21) from Avaraiyya district in Uttar Pradesh. They admitted that they had barged into the room in which Bovi and Gupta were sleeping on June 7 and attacked them with wooden rods and knives. Though the accused had fled with Rs 4,000 in cash and Bovi’s cellphone, they claimed that the motive was not theft. A day before the murder, Bovi had allegedly reprimanded them for not doing their work properly and had also slapped one of them. They wanted to get even with Bovi but hadn’t expected him to die,” said senior police inspector Prashant Bagade.
The police had registered a case of murder against the two waiters. “Both had come to work at Durgaprasad Hotel only a fortnight before the incident. We visited the restaurants where they had worked earlier and learnt that Pathan had recently called him. After sourcing the number, we traced it to Uttar Pradesh and found the duo’s village address through their friends. We nabbed them on Friday and they have been remanded in police custody till July 30,” Bagade said.
