Panchkula, March 6 While the residents of this ward suffer on account of an inactive Municipal Councillor, they believe that the condition of roads in their ward has been worse than any other. They say that every rainy season tuns roads into caters of big potholes.

Adding to their woes are the streetlights in the area, which remain non-functional for months.

As for the Councillor of the ward, Amoljit Chaudhary, she is not satisfied with the kind of developmental works she has undertaken in her ward.

She told Newsline that she did not like the 'dirty' politics of the council and she was still undecided whether to contest for the post of Councillor in the upcoming Municipal Council elections or not.

Complaints and expectations of the residents

Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Industrial Area Phase I, said, "I have made up my mind that will not vote in favour of the present councillor in the upcoming elections. There has been no developmental work in my area for the last five years. The roads in the area project a clear picture of the neglect they have suffered from the authorities. The condition was worse during the rainy season when potholes emerged in the ward." Kumar said that he could hardly find any functional streetlights in his area in the last five years.

Another resident, Geeta Vasudeva, who said water logging was the major cause of concern in Abheypur, echoed similar sentiments. She said, "Water logging in Abehypur village has been troubling the residents from a very long time. Besides, the poor condition of sanitation adds to the problem of residents. Many times in the past we have registered complaints with the authorities concerned but it had always fallen on deaf ears." She said the management of sewerage in the area has improved in the last few months.

Sumit Gupta, another resident of the ward said that several cases of crime were reported in the ward because of the poor civic facilities in the area. "There have been about three robberies and several snatching cases due to lack of basic civic amenities, especially in the Industrial Area, Phase-I. Heaps of garbage can be seen all around the ward," added Gupta.

Councillorspeaks

Talking to Newsline, Councillor Amoljit Chaudhary said, "There have been a few developmental works carried out in my ward in the last five years, but it was not of the satisfactory level.”

Chaudhary added, “We repaired the roads and improved the existing sewerage connections in Abheypur village, but there were several works left unattended."

The councillor further stated that she was only half satisfied with the kind of developmental works being carried out in the ward.
