Panchkula, February 22 Most residents of ward 5 (sector 8) are satisfied with the performance of the incumbent councillor. They are also satisfied by the developmental works undertaken in the last five years. However, the incumbent councillor, Jagdamba Gupta has decided not to contest the coming elections.

Though the overall situation is satisfactory, stray cattle, dogs and monkeys have created problems for area residents. Some shopkeepers also complained about the non functional streetlights in the marketplaces.

Complaints and expectations
Shabad Verma, a resident of the ward said, “Though we are satisfied with the performance of the councillor, the problems caused by stray animals in the sector have been increasing. Despite several requests, the authorities have failed to solve this problem.” Verma added that the lack of streetlights in the region has resulted in a spurt of crimes in the locality.
Another area resident, Jeevan Lata Jindal said, “There have been many instances when residents have been attacked by stray dogs, yet nothing much has been. Stray monkeys have also created similar problems.” She added that the lack of proper drainage facilities resulted in water logging during rains.
Rajkumar, a shopkeeper at sector 8 said, “The streetlights at the sector market are not functional. Many encroachments in the sector market have also not been noticed by civic authorities.”

Councillorspeak
The ward councillor, Jagdamba Gupta said, “Though, we have managed to complete a wide range of developmental works in the ward like repair of roads, improving the sanitation facilities etc, unfortunately, councillers in the district do not have too many powers. Despite our requests, none of the officials pay heed to the complaints.”
