Panchkula, February 24 While the residents of Ward 7, which includes Rajiv Colony, are satisfied with the development works initiated by the present Municipal Councillor Dalbir Singh, a large number of them feel the problem of stray animals and the dirty drains need immediate attention. A lot of also seek proper covers of water bodies in various colonies to keep the foul smell emancipating from it at bay. As for councillor Dalbir Singh, he plans to continue with the pace of various developmental works if brought to power again.

Complaints & expectations

Manohar Lal, a resident of the ward says, “Though we are satisfied with the kind of development work initiated in the colony, the sanitation conditions need a lot of attention. The worst of all is the condition of a drain close to the colony, which not only stinks but is also the dumping ground for the sectors in the vicinity.” The problem worsens during monsoons when the stink from the drain is impossible to bear, he added.

Shravan Kumar, another resident of the ward adds, “The biggest problem in the ward is that of stray animals, especially pigs. Despite several efforts, not much has been done about the problem for the last several years. The stray animals make the area a breeding place for various diseases.” Kumar said efforts should be made to bring about more cleanliness in the entire area to make the ward a better place to stay in.

Sushma Rani, a resident of Rajiv Colony says, “Water is a major problem in the area. There are times when we have to go without water for days together. Also sanitation is bad in the colony.”

Councillorspeak

Talking to Newsline, councillor Dalbir Singh said, “I have done major works in my ward. As the ward consists of a colony, the problem here is very different from what we have in the sectors. During my tenure, a lot of developmental works were initiated and completed. Residents of the colony were facing a major problem due to lack of SC certificates, which we got made. Also the electricity connections were got legalised by the installation of regular meters in the colony.”

Singh said he spent money from his pocket to get around 70 taps installed in his ward.

If brought to power again in the coming elections, Singh said he would get other works also in the wards completed like the cleaning of the ward’s drainage system and the sanitation problem.
