Mumbai A 22 year-old watchman was found dead at the Mangal Bhavan co-operative society in Jeevdaya lane in Ghatkopar on Sunday morning. While the police have registered a case of murder, the possibility of an accidental death has not been ruled out as the injuries sustained by the deceased could have been due to a fall.

On Sunday, Prabhu Dayal Gadgale, a driver spotted the body of Premkumar Dilbahadur Parihar lying in a pool of blood a few metres from the building’s entrance gate, where he worked. “A pool of crusted blood encircled Parihar’s head and his limbs were in an awkward angle. Surprisingly his brother and nephew were sleeping a few yards away, completely oblivious to Parihar’s body. I immediately notified the residents of the building who awakened Parihar’s relatives and called the police,” said Gadgale who was on his way to fetch the keys to his employer’s car.

Though the Ghatkopar police have registered a case of murder they are also investigating whether Parihar died after a fall. “Parihar died of a severe head injury and it appears that the crack in his skull was caused by a pressure usually the result of a fall. One of the other residents also claims to have heard a thud. Even his arms and legs have fractures on them,” said police inspector (crime) Uttam Kolekar, Ghatkopar police station
