The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has received the nod for the Jetalpur and the Navayard flyovers.
For the Jetalpur flyover, DPR worth Rs 22 crore and for Navayard, Rs 15 crore have been approved following the estimate submission by the VMC commissioner to JNNURM officials at Delhi.
To facilitate construction of the Jetalpur flyover, the VMC had initiated the encroachment removal exercise in three phases, from Bhimnath Bridge to Jetalpur Underpass via Parsi Agiyari and New India Mill Road even before the approval was given.
The final phase of the encroachment removal exercise came to an end on January 17, even as city-based activists questioned the construction plan.
Aimed at easing traffic congestions at the railway station and Sayajigunj, the width of Jetalpur flyover has been increased to 11.4 metres from the initial 6 metres in the final plan. Also, a fresh round of meetings has been initiated with railway officials to seek the necessary clearance in this regard. An amount of Rs 5.42 crore has already been paid to the railway authorities.
For Navayard flyover, the process of land acquisition has nearly been completed and the railway authorities have given the permission. Both flyovers will go over the railway track.
