With the forecast of heavy rain in coastal areas from tomorrow, fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea.
The six districts were alert has been sounded include North and South 24-Parganas, East Midnapore, Howrah and Hooghly, said state Finance Minster Asim Dasgupta after a high-level meeting at the Writers’ Buildings.
A control room has been set up at the Writers’ Buildings as well as in six district headquarters. The telephone number of the central control room at the Writers’ Buildings was 2214-3526.
Dasgupta said relief material, including 14 lakh pieces of garments, have reached all the six districts in advance. Power utilities and police have also been put on alert, said Dasgupta.
Meanwhile, Alipore Meteorological Centre said north Bengal will also witness very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Very heavy rain may occur at a few places over the districts of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Malda, North and South Dinajpur of Sub Himalayan West Bengal during next 48 hours, the weather department predicted.
Thunder squall with wind speed reaching between 50 and 60 kilometres per hour are likely to occur at isolated places over Sub-Himalaya West Bengal during next 24 hours.
