Kolkata With the Lok Sabha elections round the corner, an Election Commission-approved voting aid website— jaagore.com — has been launched in Kolkata, where voters can register, fill up the voters’ enrollment form and check the profile of the candidates.

The move is aimed at sensitising the country’s youth to exercise their right to vote. When it comes to young voters, Bengal is no exception to the national trend. Despite a high percentage of registered voters’ turnout in Bengal polls — nearly 80 per cent— a vast majority of the urban youth does not take part in the process.

The campaign, originally launched in September, already has over 300,000 registrations. The initiative has been launched by a group called Janagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy. “The website will cover all Assembly constituencies. People can find online election forms and also GIS maps of electoral registration offices, where forms can be submitted,” said Suman R, coordinator of the outreach programme.
