Some expected it, others were taken by surprise. Here is what the winners said at the Nokia 15th Annual Star Screen Awards:

Best Actor (Male): Hrithik Roshan, Jodhaa Akbar
When Ashutosh Gowariker first offered me the role, I wasn’t very convinced I should do it. But when I discussed the project with Suzanne, she said this role would fetch me an award. So, this award is for her.

Best Actor (Female): Priyanka Chopra, Fashion
I worked hard on Meghna Mathur’s character so I am really excited about this award. Fashion has had very few nominations so I dedicate this to the team and director Madhur Bhandarkar who showed immense faith in me.

Best Actor Supporting Role (Male): Arjun Rampal, Rock On!!
Screen Awards are very special to me because the day I won my first Screen Award was the day my daughter was born. But this is for my parents and my wife Mehr’s parents, who are here today to share this moment with me.

Best Actor Supporting Role (Female): Shahana Goswami, Rock On!!
I’m numb with excitement — I just can’t believe I’ve won this award. It’s one of those moments that makes you go blank and brings tears to your eyes. But I would not have been able to do it without the support of the Rock On!! team, especially Arjun Rampal.

Best Popular Actor (Male): Akshay Kumar, Singh is Kinng
I’m thrilled to be holding this award. I was travelling and on my way back, I saw my film Singh is Kinng as well as Ghajini. I sincerely believe that this award belongs to Aamir Khan. I am leaving it behind here and hope Aamir comes and takes this.

Best Popular Actor (Female): Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jodhaa Akbar
I was getting married when the film was being made so it’s a significant film in my career. But I could not have done this if it wasn’t for the cast, crew and director of Jodhaa Akbar. I’m going to accept this award, but this is just as much for them as it is for me.

Best Director: Ashutosh Gowariker, Jodhaa Akbar
This award is special to me and I do think it is important as we all worked very hard for the film.

Best Actor in Comic Role: Tusshar Kapoor, Golmaal Returns
I know the award is for a role in which I don’t say a word. But, what the heck, I don’t mind being silent if the awards keep coming.

Most Promising Newcomer (Male): Farhan Akhtar, Rock On!!
Thank you, Abhishek Kapoor (director), this is for you. He is the one who had confidence in me and insisted that I act and sing in the film.

Most Promising Newcomer (Female): Asin Thottumkal, Ghajini
I would especially like to thank Murgadoss sir (AR Murgadoss, director) for having cast me in the Tamil as well as Hindi version. I am overwhelmed at having received so much appreciation so early in my career in Bollywood.
