Prakash Dhandhal, a resident of Vithalnagar in Varachha, had left his house on Saturday for his business place in Mahidharpura Hira bazaar. He was carrying 568 carats of diamond worth between Rs 60 and 70 lakh.
When he failed to return home at night, his wife and relatives started out on his search, and on Sunday, lodged a missing complaint with the Mahidharpura police station.
So far, the police investigation has revealed that Prakash was last seen at S. Vinod, a diamond firm in Mahidharpura, where he showed the diamonds to the firm owner and left the premises in the afternoon.
His mobile was on his person till the evening and the police traced his last location somewhere in the Gopipura area of Surat.
The police said they took the statements of his family to find out whether Prakash had taken some cash loans or had enmity with someone. They said Prakash’s friends and the diamond brokers in Mahidharpura told them about his humble nature in business dealings with clients.
The police also contacted Prakash’s native place in Amreli taluka and found out that he had not visited the place.
Mahidharpura Inspector A R Desai said: “We have received confirmation that he was carrying diamonds worth between Rs 60 and 70 lakh. His friends and relatives have told us that he was not having any enemy. We have taken out his outgoing and incoming call list and are trying to find out the mystery behind the incident. We suspect something wrong might have happened to him.”
