The slow warm up that started a couple of weeks back set the mercury rising with an important pre-Verve event, that is, the General Secretary meeting on February 2 at SP College. The cultural representatives of hundreds of colleges assembled for the youth forum.
This year Verve will witness participation from over hundred colleges. The event that is scheduled to take place over a period of six days at different venues, commenced on Monday, February 4 at Nehru Memorial Hall. The first day saw the exciting elimination rounds of Verve 2008. The first event to be edited was Nupoor, a choreography competition. The round started with pulsating moves of the students of BVU HMC. Other popular events are Saaz, where teams performed light Indian music, Elan for western music, Bizarre Bazaar for Mad ads, Picture Perfect for poster making and Gabfest which is the group discussion competition. The elimination rounds for all the competitions will take place from February 4 to7 and the finals will take place between 8 and 10 of the same month at S P College. While most of the events will be held simultaneously, Saaz will take place on February 5 and 6, with Elaan on the 7th at SM Joshi Hall.
"The fifty teams that have entered will be reduced to a score in this first elimination round of Nupoor and will then compete for the title. The other competitions that have started alongside are Verve Dict which is a newsletter and a spoof video competition called Visual Terminal . We are expecting a tough, cut throat competition in the days to come", said Karan Jairath, director of operations, Express Youth Forum. Verve is scheduled to take place ,on February 8,9 and 10.
