The victim had been missing since March last year.

Justice V M Kanade has sought a reply from the police within a week. The case was adjourned till February 9. “I had asked the police to look after the victim. They should explain why protection was not given,” Justice Kanade stated.

“The victim is not being traced. I would like to know why,” Justice Kanade remarked.

The Worli police had earlier informed the court that they were closing in on leads on the whereabouts of the woman. In a report filed before the court, the police revealed that she was in a relative’s place in Hyderabad in October. The information came to light when a police team, based on leads, had gone to Hyderabad in November. The police were informed that she had been there but had left a month earlier.

The report also states that the police were looking into details based on what a witness had informed the trial court. The witness had said that the victim received pension from a shipping company where her husband used to work. The investigating officer has now written to the Directorate General of Shipping to find the source of the pension and also the name of the bank where the money is withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Kasliwal’s advocate has sought a relaxation on the bail conditions. The court said that it would hear the matter after getting a reply from the police. According to Kasliwal’s lawyer Shamsher Garud, his earlier relief on bail conditions will end on Tuesday. “We have to wait and see what the court has said in its order today,” Garud said.
