Chandigarh Uneven roads, electricity poles standing in the middle of roads as well as construction waste that has not been picked up. The recent widening of inner roads in Sector 27D by the Municipal Corporation has left the residents raising questions over the quality of work done in the area.

A resident of the sector, Kirti Sethi, rues, “The new road built in front of our house has been constructed over a concrete footpath. While the quality of the road leaves much to be desired, the slant of the road too is in the opposite direction. How will the water flow into the gullies? Rather it would accumulate on the road. Also, the construction waste was not removed when the road gullies were constructed. This is bound to affect the flow of water.”

Electricity and telephone poles standing in the middle of the road have become a common sight posing a danger, especially at night. The abrupt poles also result in parking hassles.

While the MC officials have not bothered to clear the construction waste lying on the pavements which could lead to accidents, even the manholes form a part of the newly-constructed roads.

Another resident of the sector, R K Garg says that there should be some inspection of the work that has been done. “The roads have been carpetted without clearing the objects that came in the way. At the curves, apart from the electricity and telephone poles being present, the roads have not been carpetted properly. These would not last more than a few months. Some action needs to be taken,” he says.
