New Delhi With the last tunnel-boring machine (TBM) getting to work on the 22.7-km long Airport Express Link between the New Delhi Railway Station and the IGI Airport from today, the Delhi Metro is all set to deliver their Phase II project within the deadline. The TBM at Dwarka Sector 21 will break through at the airport in May this year after creating a 1.6-km long tunnel.

“While this TBM is operating on the downline, another TBM is already working for the construction of the parallel upline,” said DMRC spokesperson, Anuj Dayal.

Two more TBMs are operational on the Airport Express Link between New Delhi Railway Station and the Shivaji Stadium.

The Airport Express Link has an underground corridor of 15.7 km. “For Phase II, which has a 30-km underground section, about 16 km is being built with TBMs,” Dayal added. All tunneling work is expected to be completed by December this year.
