Mumbai Fazelbhoy, Shaikh and Nathani help team advance into semis

Top seed Rahil Fazelbhoy of Willingdon Sports Club, Mahalaxmi fashioned an easy win to cruise into the boys’ under-15 quarter-finals, in the DHFL Junior Open Squash Tournament at the Matunga Gymkhana on Thursday.

On a rewarding day for Willingdon Sports Club lads, Fazelbhoy eased to a 11-2, 11-4 win over unseeded Ansh Patel to advance to the next round, where he will be up against club mate Mishal Nathani who overcame C V Prashant 11-3, 11-2.

Unseeded Armaan Shaikh joined his club mates in the quarter-finals following an exciting 11-6, 11-9 win over Bhavik Thakkar of Matunga Gymkhana.

In what proved to be the closest match of the day, Shaikh won a tight opening game and survived a late challenge in the second where Thakkar had his chances in a game that could have gone either way.

Also advancing to the quarter-finals was second seed Vardhan Ladiwala of CCI who blanked unseeded Sagar Wadhwani of Acres Club 11-2, 11-0.
