In what appears to be a poll sop, the state government on Monday gave three months’ time to the owners of plots allotted by any development authority in Mohali and elsewhere in Punjab to get the conveyance deed of their plots registered at the allotment rates instead of prevailing collectors’ rate.  

On a day when the Lok Sabha election dates were declared and the model code of conduct came into effect, the Punjab Revenue Department issued a notification granting a major relief to the plot owners. 

As per the notification, the plot owners, who have already made the final payment, could get their plots registered at the allotment rates within 90 days from the date of notification while those, who were yet to pay the installments, could avail three months’ time from the date of payment of the last instalment. 

Since the early 1980s when plots were allotted across the state, the prevailing collectors’ rate was charged for the registration of plots, which used to be lower than the original allotment price.

As the real estate market witnessed a boom, the collectors’ rate increased manifold as compared to the original allotment rate.
