Hisar With an eye on the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced several sops for police personnel and their kin.

Addressing new police recruits after the passing-out parade, he announced an increase in financial assistance for martyrs from the present Rs 7 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

For those injured in such operations, Rs 5 lakh will be provided as assistance as compared to the earlier figure of Rs 4 lakh.

Announcing changes in the promotion stipulations, he said a constable will become a havaldar after completing 12 years in service, instead of 16 years as is the rule at present.

Similarly, the promotion to ASI will be due after 22 years of service and to the rank of SI after 30 years.

Handing over formal appointment letters to the post of DSP to boxers Akhil of Sonepat, Jitender of Bhiwani and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, Hooda said the process of improvement in the level of investigations has already been started for which a special crime branch has been set up at the state-level.

He also announced that the process for the appointment of 1,000 women constables has been started.
