Vadodara The country’s largest offshore oilfield, Bombay High, is vulnerable to terror attack, as its safety and security is being compromised with, says the Association of Scientific and Technical Officers (ASTO). About 1,750 Sq Km of area over the Bombay High field including over 100 platforms, 600 wells and a maze of pipelines and other infrastructure, is under terrorist threat, as the fishermen, in the absence of any security, often sneak into the platforms.

The officials had brought this to the notice of the Prime Minister and the Petroleum Ministry before and immediately after 26/11. “We have written letters and even sent photographs to the PM and petroleum minister informing them about the activities of the fishermen, but no action has been taken so far. The security is inadequate,”said Rajan Pillai, general secretary ASTO-Central Working Committee of the Central government.

“When so much has been talked about coastal security, why can’t the government appoint some agency to look into the security of Bombay High, which is just 160 km away from the coast?” Pillai asked.

He added that there is absolutely no security in the area; and if there is a terror attack on this platform, national economy will collapse. The Bombay High rigs have a production capacity of approximately 2, 60,000 barrels everyday. It produces 14 per cent of India’s oil requirements and accounts for 38 per cent of all domestic production.

Fishermen, according to Pillai, sneak into the platforms to get a good catch. Bombay High produces 14 per cent of the country’s oil requirements and accounts for 38 per cent of all domestic production. At a time when the government is trying to plug loopholes in coastal security, the security of Bombay High is of prime concern.

“The situation is alarming. We have found several fishermen coming near the platform. They are also involved in thefts there. The government should do something about it,” added Pillai.

With no proper security in place, Bombay High vulnerable to terror strike by Suresh Rao on 17 Mar 2009

The dim witted and indolent leadership provided by the CongressI is the root cause of all the problems that India faces today. Whatis surpiising isthat no lesson seems to have been learnt by the trecherous Congress I . With such brainless dolts there is no hopeof guarding our Economic and other assets.Hence it would bemuchmore cheaper and effectivetoattack and destroy the Paki Trecherous Heathen Infrastructure than waste money in"trying" to beef up our security appratus in anymeaningful way.VT Station in Mumbai which was the scene of oneofthe most horrific massacres is now back to the old pre 26/11 security arrangement - meaning no security. A few policemen armed with SLRs were posted atvarious points after the first fewdays ofthe 26/11 attach They have now apparently been withdrawn., as now we find no traces of them anywhere in VT. Long live our Blessed motherland ! ! ! Jai Ho ....... errr I mean Jai Hind
