In a statement issued today, Jain said the fee is not only unreasonable and high, it violates the spirit in which the government had allotted the land to the housing societies. He said these units were not constructed by the Chandigarh Housing Board and therefore the government has no power to impose any charges for the transfer of the units on the basis of GPA.
He said that if this fee has to be charged it should be nominal and it should not be used as a method to collect crores of rupees from the allottees.
