Chandigarh Senior BJP leader and former Member of Parliament, Satya Pal Jain, has urged the Home Ministry and the officials of the UT Administration to withdraw the notification by which it revised the transfer fee on the General Power of Attorney (GPA) holders of dwelling units. These were built by co-operative house building societies ranging between Rs 3-5 lakh for various categories.

In a statement issued today, Jain said the fee is not only unreasonable and high, it violates the spirit in which the government had allotted the land to the housing societies. He said these units were not constructed by the Chandigarh Housing Board and therefore the government has no power to impose any charges for the transfer of the units on the basis of GPA.

He said that if this fee has to be charged it should be nominal and it should not be used as a method to collect crores of rupees from the allottees.

Jain submits memorandum to Sunkaria
Jain met MC Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria to discuss the plight of Manimajra based motor mechanics. Accompanied by some mechanics, he submitted a memorandum to Sunkaria stating that over 2,000 motor mechanics have been adversely affected due to the extension of the parking lots in the Motor market. They demanded that if the mechanics are to be displaced, an alternate site be allotted to them.
