Recently, Ludhiana SSP (Urban) asked the police officers to intensify their efforts in tracing the whereabouts all the missing persons. The directions come in the wake of a complaint filed by the father of a missing boy to the Human Rights Commission and the State Information Commission.
Twelve-year-old Gaurav, son of Pawan Kumar, a resident of Vakilan street, had gone missing about four months ago. Though the Ludhiana DIG had constituted a team to trace him, the cops have failed to find this special child.
His father had moved the Punjab State Human Rights Commission (PSHRC) and the State Information Commission seeking information about the missing persons and the efforts initiated by the police to locate them. The PSHRC, after admitting Pawan’s complaint has forwarded it to the Punjab police to conduct an inquiry and send a report to the PSHRC.
The PSHRC will hear the case in March this year. “Had the police taken some pain to trace these missing persons, my son and many others might have been found by now,” said Pawan, while speaking to Newsline.
Following this, the Ludhiana SSP (Urban) RK Jaiswal recently held a meeting with the gazetted officers and took the stock of the individual cases. The SSP directed top cops to intensify their efforts in locating the missing persons.
Meanwhile, sources revealed that as many as 103 persons went missing in 2007 and have not been found till date. One of them was later found dead.
According to the sources, a majority of the missing persons include are in the age group of 18 to 50 years.
The total number of missing persons in this age group is 52. As many as 20 of them are children/teenagers up to 18 years of age. As many as 23 missing persons include women and eight senior citizens.
Sources further said a majority of the missing persons were the breadwinners of their families.
