Amritsar, January 31 A Woman employee of the Military Engineering Service (MES) of the Indian Army, Rajinder Kaur, 50, was today arrested with 400 grams of plastic explosives (PE), one detonator and four live cartridges near Tibri cantonment area. Some switches were also recovered from her possession, police sources said.

On a tip-off, the police party laid a siege and she was arrested with explosives, said DSP (D) Jasdeep Singh, who is investigating the case.

The police, he said, have registered a case against her at Purana Shalla police station, under various sections of the Explosive Act and the Arms Act. She is working as a clerk and had got the job in place of her husband on the compassionate grounds after his death. She also has a son serving in the Army. The police said it was not known if she had any target or was associated with any terrorist outfit.

"We have taken her on police remand till February 2. Her interrogation is on and we will be exploring all angles," said Gurdaspur SSP Lok Nath Angra.

He said she had been working at the Cantonment for the last many years and seemed a clear-headed woman. When asked how powerful the explosive was, he said it was quite dangerous.
