Kolkata The woman who poured hot water on eight schoolchildren in Salt Lake was arrested on Thursday.

Archana Shanki had poured boiling water on eight children of Salt Lake CA school on Wednesday morning. All the children suffered minor burns. Archana and her husband Mahadeb and their 19-year-old daughter stay in CA 219 as caretakers for an elderly woman Susanta Bakshi.

After the incident the family had fled.

The school authorities had lodged a complaint, after which the police recorded statements of the eight children. Late on Wednesday the couple had come back.

Archana was produced in the sub-divisional judicial magistrate’s court in Salt Lake. At the court Archana broke down and apologised for her act.

“Even I have a daughter, how can I throw boiling water?” she said. Archana admitted she had poured lukewarm water on the children. She added that some of the senior boys of the school would regularly throw bricks at their house and also abuse the family.

She was released on bail for a bond of Rs 1,500. She will be again produced before the court on February 5.
