Kolkata Mystery shrouded the death of a 21-year-old woman, Reshma Khatik, whose body was found on Sunday morning at the premises of Marwari Relief Society Hospital at Rabindra Sarani near Posta.

She was admitted on June 17 with diarrhoea and fever. The hospital caretaker said she jumped from the fourth floor at 3.45 am.

According to hospital authorities, the woman, a resident of Shibtala in Howrah, also suffered from certain behavioural problems and had consulted a pyschiatrist on June 19. Aarti Khatik, her mother, however, said there was nothing wrong with Reshma and the incident occurred because of negligence of the hospital authorities.

The family staged a demonstration and blocked Chitpur Road for two hours — from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. The body has been sent for postmortem and the police has started an investigation.

In another incident, Sheikh Nijammuddin (62) jumped off the second floor of the MCH building of Calcutta Medical College around 9.40 am on Sunday. He had been admitted to Calcutta Medical College on June 16. He was a patient of throat cancer and was suffering from depression.
