Woman crushed to death as truck hits scooter

Chandigarh A 45-year-old woman died after a truck hit the scooter she was riding pillion with her son.

The accident took place near the Poultry Farm Chowk around 1.30 pm on Sunday.

The deceased, Ram Bateri, was a resident of Bhaskar Colony in Sector 25. Her son, Deepak, who was riding the scooter, escaped unhurt. The mother-son duo was going to Zirakpur while the truck was on its way to Phase I, Industrial Area.

The truck driver, Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Una in Himachal Pradesh, has been arrested on charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

Man critical after car hits motorcycle

In a separate incident, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Dhanas, sustained serious injuries when a speeding Ford Ikon car collided with his motorcycle near the Dhanas Barrier late on Saturday night.

He was taken to the PGI with severe head injuries and his condition was stated to be serious, said the police.

The car driver, Mohinder Singh of Dhanas, has been arrested on charges of causing injury due to rash and negligent driving.
