Surat, January 19 Seven days after a woman died under mysterious circumstances while performing rituals at a dargah, her father lodged a complaint against his sister and her son with Billimora police station in Navsari district on Friday. The complaint was later transferred to Tarapur police station in Thane district of Maharashtra as the incident took place there.

Police said Tasleema Shaikh (23), a resident of Salimar complex in Billimora, was taken to Jamalshah Dargah in Tarapur by her aunt Naseem and her son Riyaz. Tasleema, a commerce graduate, was “mentally unstable”. And therefore, Naseem took her to the dargah for some ritual on January 13.

Tasleema’s father Ismail Shaikh in his complaint said she was tortured and while performing the rituals Tasleema collapsed and became unconscious. She was taken to a private hospital in Alipore by her aunt where doctors declared her “dead on arrival”.

Later, Naseem took the body to Saravani village in Chikhli Taluka, where she was buried in presence of her parents and other relatives. Tasleema’s mother Shehnaz was shocked and lost her mental balance. Following which, she was admitted in the hospital at Billimora.

After Ismail contacted the Billimora police, police exhumed the body from the grave and have sent it for a post-mortem to New Civil hospital.

Circle inspector M P Raolji said: “We still don’t know why she died. We are waiting for the post-mortem report. We have registered a case under Sections 304 and 114 against Naseem and her son. We have learnt that Tasleema was mentally sick and she was taken to Dargah for her treatment. While offering prayers, Tasleema died. We are looking into the matter to know the truth.”
