Chandigarh, January 6 In yet another incident of asphyxiation, a woman, Parvati (25), lost her life while her eight-day-old infant and mother (48) Saroj were hospitalised late evening today.

Parvati’s husband Mohan Lal, who works as a waiter at a hotel, discovered the three lying unconscious in their one-room-house at Manimajra.

He called his neighbours and police for help.

The three were rushed to Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where the doctors declared Parvati brought dead and referred the other two to PGIMER, Chandigarh .

Their condition is stated to be critical.

“The family had kept an angithi burning in the room that had no ventilation.

Even the windows were covered with plastic sheets to prevent cold winds from coming into the room,” said Inspector Hari Kumar, SHO, Manimajra police station.

Last week, four of a family, too, had suffocated to death after they had left an angithi in their one-room house. This incident had also taken place at Manimajra.
