Woman employee hangs self at civic body office

Kolkata The body of a Class IV woman employee of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) was found hanging in a room at the third floor of the civic body office this morning.

An employee first saw the body when he opened the door this morning after which the police were informed.

According to officers at the New Market Police Station, Prakashini Nayek (29) committed suicide between 7.30 to 8.30 pm yesterday after other employees left the department.

They said the woman, a resident of Bhadrak in Orissa who had got the job after the death of her father during his service at the KMC, hanged herself to the ceiling with a piece of cloth.

The police said the victim was suffering from physiological disorder and stayed with her relatives at Baguihati. They said she was on medication.

Mayor Bikash Bhattacharjee said the result of the police investigation is awaited.
