Woman gets life term for sister-in-law’s murder

Chandigarh A 22-year-old girl was sentenced to life imprisonment for setting her sister-in-law on fire in 2006. The accused, Kamlesh, had set her sister-in-law Vidyawati on fire by pouring kerosene on her, after which Vidyawati died. The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge S K Aggarwal on Friday sentenced Kamlesh to life imprisonment under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

The husband and mother-in-law of the deceased, Rakesh Kumar and Shyam Kali respectively, were also convicted for dowry harassment under Sections 498-A and 120-B of the IPC and sentenced to imprisonment for seven-and-a-half months.

The victim had stated before the magistrate that her husband was employed in Barnala and used to visit the house once a week. She was living with her father-in-law Ram Sewak, mother-in-law Shyam Kali, minor brother-in-law Rajesh and sister-in-law Kamlesh.
