Kolkata A woman was arrested by the Howrah police on Tuesday for allegedly strangling her husband to death.

The police said Bapi Bhattacharjee’s body, which bore strangulation marks, was found at his Kamardanga residence on Monday night.

“His wife Sagarika was arrested, while her father was detained for questioning after a complaint was lodged by her relatives,” a police officer said.

He added that Sagarika used to have frequent quarrels with her husband, which could have led her to take the extreme step.

The police said she had been missing from the flat when the murder came to light.

Sagarika was produced in a Howrah court on Tuesday and was remanded in police custody for five days.

The police said the motive behind the murder would become clear after her interrogation.
