The meeting, which will be presided over by chief secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti, will also be attended by Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen, Sports Secretary RPS Kahlon, DGP AB Vohra and Kolkata Police commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti.
“We received the revised schedule on Monday. We will discuss it in our meeting. But under no circumstances shall we agree to compromise an election for an IPL match,” the chief secretary said.
According to the revised IPL schedule, the matches in the state will be held on April 11, 14, 18, 21, 26, and May 2 and May 4. Polls in West Bengal will be held in phases — April 30, May 7 and May 13.
Though the government may not find it difficult to provide policemen for the matches as elections for Kolkata seats will be held on May 13, it could face some problems in parting with police personnel for elections in other states. According to Sen, the state government has already promised to the Union home ministry to send 11 companies of state armed police to other states for poll duty.
“The entire issue will be discussed in the meeting,” the police commissioner said.
The Kolkata Knight Riders, the team owned by film star Shah Rukh Khan and led by Saurav Ganguly, said it would extend all co-operation to the state government as far as matches at Eden Gardens are concerned. “At this moment, we can say we will provide all co-operation to the state government as far as matches at Eden Gardens are concerned,” said Jay Bhattacharya, CEO, Kolkata Knight Riders.
