Kolkata, January 6 Union minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi criticising Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen on Sunday said that she should bow down and apologise to all Indians for her writings. At present, Taslima is living in an undisclosed location in New Delhi.

“This is not at all acceptable. Being a writer does not give her the liberty to hurt religious sentiments. We will not allow Taslima to get away with such writings,” said Dasmunsi at Malda.

Earlier, Taslima in an e-mail to her friend in Kolkata had described her plight during the course of her stay in Delhi. She had alleged that more than Islamic fundamentalism, it was politics that was playing a crucial role in preventing her return to Kolkata.

When asked if the Centre was keen to bring her back to the city, the minister said that it was up to the state government.

“All I can say is that it was they (the state government) who had given her so much indulgence,” he said.

The Union minister also spoke at length about the Congress’ debacle in the Balagarh by-elections.

He blamed the organisational weakness of the Congress in the state and the lack of direction from the party leaders here for the failure.

On the fate of Congress in the forthcoming panchayat elections and the possibility of an alliance with the Trinamool Congress, Dasmunsi said: “We are not thinking about it (the alliance) right now.”
