The three-lane Munirka flyover, which was being constructed by AFCON Limited at a cost of Rs 104 crore, was to be completed by February. It is now expected to finish only by June-end.
On Friday, PWD Minister Rajkumar Chauhan and PWD Secretary K K Sharma visited the Commonwealth Games site Tyagraj Stadium and the three flyovers under construction on the Outer Ring Road to check on their status. “Work on shifting of pipelines belonging to Indra Prastha Gas Limited is creating problems here and is delaying the project. We have started the process, however, it will take time,” said a senior PWD official.
Work on the two other flyovers has also been delayed by nearly a month due to shifting of DJB pipelines and BSES wiring, and are now expected to be completed by March.
The Munirka flyover has been under construction for over a year now and has adversely affected traffic flow in the area. Chauhan had earlier pulled up AFCON Infrastructure Limited for the unnecessary delay. The PWD complained against the firm to the Chief Secretary requesting action be taken against it.
The minister also visited Tyagraj Stadium earlier in the day. “The main structure of the stadium is ready and it should be completed by December 2009,” Chauhan said. The stadium is being constructed at Rs 300 crore and would have a capacity of 5,000 people.
