Mumbai With work on the fifth and sixth corridors of the Kalyan-Kurla sector and stabling sidings at Thakurli on in full swing, Central Railway commuters are hoping for a better travel experience soon.

The work on fifth and sixth corridors, under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP), is in its last stages near Thakurli. Work is on in full gear to construct the sidings for parking the trains during non-peak and non-operation hours.

According to Divisional Railway Manager J N Lal at Thakurli, Chole village power house, work of laying four tracks under the MUTP for accommodating trains of the fifth and sixth corridor is complete. Work is in progress for construction of six more tracks. There would be ten tracks for trains to halt during non-peak and non-operation hours. Provision of stabling sidings is good news for the Mumbai suburban commuters as it would translate in more train services. Once the fifth and sixth tracks are commissioned, the third and fourth tracks will be able to run more suburban services.

According to Central Railway Public Relations Officer Shrinivas Mudgerikar, 1410 train services are being run on CR. At any given point there are 60 trains on the tracks between Mumbai CST and Kalyan. Besides the car sheds at Kurla and Kalwa stabling sidings have been provided near Chinchpokli, Kurla, Thane and Kalyan. During non-peak hours the trains that are not required to run need to be moved to the stabling sidings from the operation lines.
