Patiala A four-day workshop on ‘Miniature Paintings’ based on the themes of Guru Granth Sahib started at the Department of Fine Arts, Punjabi University, on Tuesday. The workshop is being conducted under the supervision of the Director of the Jawahar Kala Kendra and also former Principal of Art College, Jaipur, M K Sharma as a part of tercentenary celebrations of Guruta Daddi Divas.

While inaugurating the workshop, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Jaspal Singh said that as Guru Granth Sahib was replete with many mystical and celestial ideas and thoughts of a composite culture, nothing could be more befitting than to organise such a workshop on the occasion.

About 10 renowned miniature artists from Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh will conduct the workshop. Around 100 students from the university and its affiliated colleges will participate in the event.

The V-C added that Punjabi University is the only university in the country that conducts a specialised course in miniature paintings and that he will make maximum efforts to strengthen this department.

Sharma lauded the efforts of the university in organising the event and said that the art needs special skill and finesse which is found lacking in the modern generation of artists.

Head of Fine Arts Department at the Punjabi University, Gurcharan Singh, was also present on the occasion.
