Mumbai The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Western Railway (WR) has prosecuted 200 trespassers over the last two days.

According to Shyam Sundar Gupta, chief spokesperson, WR, of the 200 prosecuted, seven were sent to jail and the rest were imposed a fine amounting to over Rs 50,000. The drive involved 80 RPF personnel and 25 officials of the commercial department. The drive was carried out at important stations like Dadar, Andheri, Borivali and Jogeshwari.

“Various measures and activities are being undertaken to curb trespassing. These include regular public announcements (PA) being made at all stations, newspaper advertisements issued periodically and trespassing jingles played over the PA system and FM radio channels. Iron bar fencing has been put up between tracks at all suburban stations and walls have been erected along railway boundaries. We are trying to educate people that it is dangerous to cross the tracks,” said Gupta.

WR undertook a night jumbo mega block to avoid inconvenience to the commuters. “To carry out maintenance work, a night jumbo mega block work will be carried out from 11 pm on Saturday (January 31) to 3 am on February 1. Suburban trains will not be affected during the block on Sunday,” Gupta said.

The CR has announced a mega block on Sunday between Masjid and Chunabhatti and Wadala Road and Mahim from 11:05 am to 4:05 pm. A mega block has also been announced on the slow line between Thane and Kalyan from 10:30 am to 4 pm.
