Vadodara officials of the Western Railway, Vadodara division have assured the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) of their cooperation in completing some of the major rail overbridge (RoB) projects.

The VMC will not be allowed to take up any RoB project on its own and WR will construct the portion above the tracks, said railway officials at a meeting.

Among those present at the meeting were Minister of State (Railways) Naran Rathwa, senior railway and civic officials.

The meeting was crucial as work on at least three RoBs has been held up because of the delay on the part of the railway authorities. The RoBs at Vadsar, Jetalpur and Navayard have remained incomplete as the railway authorities are to construct the portion above the railway tracks.

WR (Vadodara) Divisional Railway Manager Suhas Kumar told Newsline: “We are going to float the tender for the fourth time to initiate the project for constructing the portion above the railway tracks. Though contractors did not participate in the process as the construction market was at its best then and our work required a lot of discipline. But now, we hope better participation because of the market scenario.”

VMC officials said the meeting was important considering the recent nod to construct the RoB at Lalbaug.

“WR officials assured us of quick completion of the projects. Elaborate discussion took place regarding projects at Lalbaug, Vadsar crossing, Jetalpur and also at Shastri Bridge,” said P M Patel, JNNURM Road and Bridge, executive engineer.
